Plurality voters often feel they cannot afford to be honest!

In an election where one feels that one's favorite Nader has no chance to win, it is foolish to vote (honestly) for Nader. Your vote would be "wasted" since your opinions about the candidates more-likely to win will be ignored. That could cause both Nader and your favorite frontrunner to lose.

That is exactly what happened in the Florida 2000 US presidential election – even though studies showed that 90% of the voters who thought Nader best, dishonestly voted for somebody else, the 10% of Nader-likeing voters who actually did vote for Nader suffcied to throw the election and make Bush win!
